I just had an issue with a missing/corrupt file that would not let me get back into Windows and got that taken care of by stripping the computer and getting everything reinstalled. Trying to run disk defrag for the first time and I get a warning "Defragmentation of (C has been aborted due to inconsistencies found in the filesystem. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C to repair these inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again" I try run either and it doesn't work. Try search and then click and CHKDSK is all that comes up and only runs in "read only". Copy the file into run and it comes up with all of the icons for the CHKDSK C:\I386(?) folder. What now?
The check Disk command goes like this : chkdsk <partition>
ie . chkdsk c: for c partition.
If no paramenter is specified it runs in read only.
Also in command prompt type chkdsk/? for a quick help list.
GP: I typed the command "CHKDSK C:" in the run command and it came up "F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in Read-Only mode". Did I misunderstand your answer?

Okay, didn't develop like I envisioned. but it finally ran upon a restart and ran 5 steps where read-only did only three. Ran the defrag and all is well.THANKS! Pretty soon I'll know just enough to be dangerous ...about computers that is! ;o)
