Help - What to do to keep the 'firewall' setting 'On' ?

I use a Laptop with XP Pro and have loaded the SP2 updates.
For some reason, any time I do check for the 'firewall' settings -
using 'Start', 'Network Connections', and check the 'Properties'
of the 'Ethernet Adapter', and under 'Advanced', I see the
'Windows Firewall' setting turned 'Off'. I do change the setting
to 'On'. Almost every time I boot the Laptop, the setting changes
from 'On' to 'Off'.

Question - any idea why does this setting automatically changes
from 'On' to 'Off' ? Any comments will be highly appreciated.

P.S. I do have 'Zone Alarm', 'Norton AntiVirus', 'AVG AntiVirus',
and 'Microsoft AntiSpyware' running. I also run Ad-Aware once a
week to keep the Laptop clean.

Good way to put it!

Unless you're trying to keep yourself from getting online, why on earth
would you want two firewalls running?

In fact, I was having trouble to keep my Laptop active, since
I had two firewalls running. Thank you for educating me.

XP Firewall checks incoming traffic only.

Zone Alarm and most other third party personal firewalls check incoming and
outgoing. Having outgoing traffic monitored may give you an early tip off
that the system has acquired a trojan, worm or other malware - one that is
not yet detected and cleaned by the installed and active antivirus program
or anti-spyware program.
