I go into display properties to try and change the screen saver settings and the setting boxes are greyed out. The screen shuts down after 10 minutes and the system is put into standby.

Check your user account to see if you have administrator rights.

Yes, the user signed onto that system has administrator rights. When I was checking it I also noticed that I can't change any of the other power down functions either. They are all greyed out.
