Hello guys,

I have an AMD athlon XP 3800+ that I need a heatsink/fan for. Do you need to get the heatsink/fan to be compatible with the socket or does it have to be compatible with the processor? For example I found one that was compatible with the Athlon XP 3700+, but I have a Athlon XP 3800+. Could I have gotten that one? Does it have to be an exact match? If you can, i will be happy to have some links.

It has to be compatible with the socket. Are you sure it's an Athlon XP, and not an Athlon 64? I would think it's an Athlon 64 (I don't think they made Athlon XP's in that speed), and would likely be a Socket 939 or a Socket AM2. Find out which socket you have and order a heatsink for it. Different speed CPU's within the same platform aren't going to have an effect on the fitment of the heatsink.
