Vista message locking computer

I was getting ready to plug my HP Pavillion in to charge the battery. Before I could do it I received a notification that the computer was locking. It began to cycle as is shutting down. Does anyone know what happened. This is a VISTA operating system

What exactly did it say?

If it said "Locking your computer", then that simply means that the computer was going to sleep / hibernating and that you would have to type your password in upon waking it up.
