Firstly I'm in my 70's, with a dell and then an HP computer for the past 2 years.
I have received the hard drive as a present with no instructions in the carton. I know absolutely nothing whatsoever on how to work it. Can someone point me to a website that will furnish all the necessary information

Plug the drive in

start-->right click on my computer-->manage-->disk management-->click your drive and bring it online-->it likely should be a basic disc-->right click on the drive and format and assign a drive letter.

Actually since it is a external drive I would think it is going to be a USB drive.
Just plug it in and it should come up.
Then you can use it just as if it were the internal drive that you already have.
