vista,open c:\add up memory usage in each folder=x.30 gig less than c:\ properties.cleaned up,ran dskchk.no improvement.wgere are the missing 30 gbs ?

If I remember correctly the restore files are not included in the totals.
One way to check would be to delete all but the current restore points and see if the total changes.
Unlike UNIX, on Windows systems there are some files and folders that, by default, even the Administrator doesn't have access to. Thus they don't get included in totals when displaying the contents of a drive. But the OS does allow anyone to know how much of a drive is in use and how much is free space; thus the discrepancy.
