Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, I'm new to this forum. This is what I posted on another forum and no one replied, so I guess I will try here. (directly copied and pasted from other forum)

I have been searching the net for a sign of help but came up with nothing. Here is the situation, I have a Pentium D 805 (Smithfield) 2.66GHz CPU. Around August I will be upgrading my comp to this......and if I need to change these I will, but I am on a budget, basically.
1. EVGA 680i SLI ATX motherboard (will change if it will have a problem with my CPU)
2. Graphics card (probably an 8800GTS 640mb, but I will wait to see what new graphics cards nvidia comes out with)
3. G.Skill DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 Timings (I think)
4. 80GB hard drive

My question is, will my CPU have a spazm and die if I put it in the motherboard, will it crap out with my GPU? Basically I am trying to find a way of avoiding a CPU upgrade, but upgrading everything else on my system (just about) with minimal problems with the computer. I will probably have a new cpu by November-December anyways, but will my Pentium D hold off until then?

ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

Other then bottlenecking the 8800gts it'll work fine.

Don't get an 80gb drive. Horrible price/performance ratio. For $20 more you can get a 250gb drive.

What kind of psu do you have? The 8800gts is a pretty power hungry card, as I'm sure you know.

All your links are broken btw...

Yes, I know the 8800GTS is a big power sucker, so I bought a BFG 650W with 2 12V 2.0 rails, not sure what that is exactly, but I knew about the wattage. I'm trying to learn as much as I can to make my buy a good one for my hard earned money. And yes, you are right about the hard drive =/ lol

IF that's a budget build, you're doing pretty good for yourself. Unless it's broken the PD805 won't have any problems working in there (any LGA775 chip should work on that board, even the prescott ones).

And your game performance will be fine.

Yeah I don't think that's a great choice of motherboard, it's really a board for high end overclocking enthusiasts who are more than likely going to take advantage of the SLI functionality. You'd be better off with a board based on Intel's P965 or P35 chipsets (Gigabyte's 965P-DS3 and P35-DS3R are good bets).

Get a p965 mobo and a good coling for the 805 and there will be no difficulties crossing the 4ghz barrier. This procesor is a good overclocker.

yeah i wouldn't conserm my self with a Sli Motherboard instead i would go with a P965 motherboard, such as the DS3 series form gigabyte, which will allow you to overclock your CPU to 3.6Ghz+ whihc will mean you wont bottle neck you Graphics too much.

Well, I was actually thinking about going SLi, but I really don't know. Thanks for the help so far guys. It is a little bit of a budget build btw though, so I'm still tryin to find the best parts, futureproof a bit too...but not a mobo that is over $200

**EDIT** What about this P35 mobo, it is in my price range, and has 2 five star reviews, what do you guys think?

SLI is seldom a good choice. It costs more in the short and long run, and most people will never enjoy any true benefit. Stick with a solid choice, P965, 650i or P 35 are all solid picks for a good cheap MB.

I've heard good things about this one but really anything from Gigabyte's P35 range is likely to be top drawer.

Seconded, the DS3R is an awesome board! The DS3P as well. They're more or less the same mobo, the only major difference is that the DS3P has 2 pci-e slots whereas the DS3R has one.

DS3R review. For all intents and purposes it's a DS3P review as well.
