If there's two computers sharing the same cable connection through a router and one computer is turned off, does that mean the other computer turned on will get the full connection like if it was only connected to one computer? Does the router and extra wires slow down the connection that much?

Well an electronic singal will probably travel at least a few miles (if not thousands of miles) to get to your computer and go through quite a few routers on the way...So i dont really think your one router and few feet of cable is really going to bring your internet connection to its knees.

the router has a built in switch i assume? Which mean either way switch will allow maximum throughput to each connection
