Recently i bought a used Dell pc optiplex280 and a sticker of XP CD key came with that
When i installed XP from a pirated CD and gave that key, i proved to be invalid
Why is so?
I thought it may be a problem when activating but not on giving key........
Anybody can tell me my rights about that key (am i owner of that key?)

More about : key cpu

You need the Dell Windows XP CD that matches the Product Key (Home or Pro).

Agree with Grumpy, not any XP CD will work.

Contact Dell and see if you are eligible for a replacement Operating System CD.

I believe the cost is no where near the price of a brand new OS CD. There are reports that the first replacement is free. I'm not sure which category you fall into.

You will need your Dell documentation when filling out the forms or speaking to a representative.

Here's a link to point you in the right direction:

I believe the EULA has provisions in it which state you can have that Operating System, XP, reside on the machine and no other (If it's OEM). It cannot be moved to another machine and the EULA may be voided in the case of significant hardware upgrade is made to the machine. i.e. Motherboard or Processor.

I not 100% sure but I think that is the general gist of it.

1. Call Dell or borrow one from someone that owns a Dell.
2. Yes, as long as the Product Key sticker is still on the computer.

You can share it as long as you don't mind spam. What do you expect us to do? Email you a Dell Windows XP CD?
