I have Cambridge Soundworks speakers (4+1 subwoofer) for my system and I'm planning on buying a new PC. I want to use the Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer card once I get it built. Currently my speakers plug into a digital port off the back of my Soundblaster Live card. Where would I plug them into on the new X-Fi card?
I'm not familiar with that card so I did a quick check of the specifications. If I looked at the card you want to purchase it said digital i/o requires a separate module. I would double check the specs for yourself of the exact card you plan on using to make sure that is correct.
Ahhh, I see on Creative's site that the "flex" port functions as a digital out port. I guess I would use this. I'm not sure what benefit I'm getting from using the digital connections with my speakers and sound card. I guess I could just use the regular line out connections. Does anyone know if and how much an improvement the digital hookup is?
Advantage:
There is no electrical interference while using the digital optical outputs on your sound card. Using the optical audio will pretty much give you the cleanest sound possible.
Remember, when using the optical output on your Xfi to pick up an optical toslink cable with 1/8" adapter.
