Formatting help

I am trying to wipe my hard drive due to a nasty virus. I was in use.... ) then when I try to force a dismount that does not work either. So I tried to change the boot seq from the bios screen and when I restart it it comes up and says press any key to boot from cd and when I do you can hear the disk do something for a mintue or two then nothing. so then I tried to put in the original XP cd and try to re-install and I click the link, and then you can hear the disk make noise for a few minutes then the light goes out and does nothing. Please help I do not want to spend the money for a new computer right now.

see as u want to format ur operating system and again install it.
Go through steps:
1. start pc.
2. insert ur Operting System (XP etc.) cd.
3. while pc is starting go into bios setup.
4. then in the boot priority- select first priority as cd. and second as hard disk.
5. then restart pc.
6. now u will see msg "press any key to boot from cd"
press any key.

now ur formting will start.
whil formating select only that drive on which u have installed previous O.S.(may be C drive), then go through the process.
