Hey, sorry if this has been repeated
im seeking to upgrade my system:
Dell XPS GEN 4
3.20 GHZ single core Intel P4 640
1 Gig RAM DDR2
PCI-E X16 X850XT PE
The BFG 8800GTS 320Mb looks excellent, but my main concern is my single core CPU. I've read that single core would hold back the 8800 but to what extent.
Is it a small performance decrease?
It will hold your card back but not by much if you are to play at high resolution (1280x1024 for example) with some AA/AF.
(Except Supreme Commander as it design for Dual-Core CPUs.)
By the way, more important than your CPU will be your PSU.
Go buy the card and enjoy but make sure that your PSU can handle that card cause you don't want to damage that card, do you? Good luck!
Would be better to try to sell that rig.
I think it would be possible since Gen4 is not really old yet.
If not, you can just sell it in parts (this way could keep drives and HDD).
