Will the Hiper Type R modular 580w psu power the 8800 GTX OK?
I dont want to upgrade power supply right now - will do it in about half a year when I upgrade mobo, CPU and add another 8800 in SLI.
My rig currently:
Athlon X2 4400+
2 GB Ram
ATI X1800XT
2 x 250 GB HDDs
eh if anything 98% of the times it would just cause ur system to reboot if you played any intensive game that required more power than your psu can supply.
1% of the time the PSU could die
and a further 1% your psu could die and take a part or parts of your system with it
I have the same PSU and considered getting the same card, but before I do I'm definitely getting another PSU. I'm shooting for the PC Power and Cooling 750watt Silencer copper ^.^
For me it's too close for comfort. I'd recommend an upgrade :-/
It's supposedly made by Seasonic, but I've read that they can fail after 6 months or so, but since mine started up reasonably well, I hope it lasts. I understand it's a heat issue. I'm not taxing the system now and I have a heatpipe for the CPU and a 120mm exhaust fan, and can add an intake fan in the front.
It has 42 amps combined on the 3 rails, and that's enough above an 8800GTX, but I'm still thinking of the 8800GTS 640 just to play it safe. I'll be getting the new card on October 15. Ideally, I want the PSU to not be overtaxed, but I want the best I can afford in time for the holiday DX10 titles.
Right now, my 3DMark06 score is 2238 with the 7600GS. I hope to see better in the fall. I also upgraded the CPU from the original 3800+ Windsor to a 4600+. I can always use the 3800+ in another computer. It seemed like 2.4 gigahertz was the true entry level for games on an Athlon X2.
you can see my spec from my signature and I'm running it on 550w psu and every week or so I get a power shortage message during post, I just need to reset again to get it up but it shows the psu is starting to struggle. if your plannin big upgrades anytime soon then get a bigger one. 700 odds maybe
