Has there been any documentation released yet on whether the upcoming Intel CPUs will work in Intel 975X boards? How about the nVidia 680i boards?

I'd hate to think users like myself have reached the end of upgrade line for a 975X or 680i board.

680i certainly supports 1333fsb & I think that 975X does too but only if the mobo mfrs implement it in the BIOS.
As far as Penryn support I'm not too certain.
