Intel recently upgraded some of the Core 2 Duo line to include a larger cache, even though the new Intels are right around the corner.

Is there any documentation or suggestion that there will be continued speed increases and/or cache increases and/or any other types of improvements in the Core 2 lineup before the next generation ships are released?

Thanks

My gut feeling is that this is the end of the line for the 975X. Since I have no desire to get a first generation motherboard, I'm debating the 975x stability vs the 680i expandability (Two 16x slots, 1333 FSB, support for Penryn, and apparently support for these newer faster Core 2 Duo/Quads as well).

I think what I was trying to ask is: "Will Intel continue to create faster Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad for the 975X chipset?"

975x chipset is well on its last days. Right now the chipset to get would be the P35 as it definitively supports the new processors(penryn) from Intel where as the 680i might not.
