My PSU failed on me during a boot up and now I get the error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
C:\windows\system32\config\system

A little about my system:
Aspire T160 with SATA controller (SATA HDD) and IDE controller for CD drives, etc.

So I figure this is an easy fix and I can just boot up the trusty XP pro disc I have, start the recovery, then do a fix boot or fdisk the MBR or something similar. My problem comes when I try to log on to the XP installation (or even reformat the drive) and I get a "Bad Pool Caller" BSOD. I scratched my head and assume its a driver issue, so I slipstream my XP disc with the SATA controller driver listed for my mobo. No luck.

Just to test out hardware, I found an old 10GB IDE drive and installed XP. Everything works flawlessly. I can even access all my files on the SATA drive (Also did a chkdsk and found no errors for the drive). I ran RAM tests just out of curiosity with no errors, but I know that is not the prob since the same XP install worked just fine. So now I am back to driver issue...

I guess my question is this: is it possible to do a fixboot or fdisk the MBR of my SATA drive from the IDE drive I'm currently running? If no, I am thinking my SATA drivers I slipstreamed are not correct. How can I pull the right drivers off of the IDE XP install to slipstream those? I am under the impression you need more than just the .sys files.

Thanks
