What are you using the computer for? Gaming, multi-tasking etc?

Do you need an OS? Monitor? What size?

How much hard drive space would you like?

Well for $1500 W/o monitor, Cd/dvd drive and peripherals you can build one helluva system.

These are all -just- suggestions, to get you looking in the right direction.

E6600 - $223

Silverstone Decathalon 650w Modular PSU - $155

Gigabyte DS3R (for future upgradeability) - $160

WD 400gb HD - $95

EVGA 8800GTS Superclocked - $380 after MIR

Patriot eXtreme DDR2-800 - $90 after MIR

Case is your own choice, so is CPU cooler (although everyone and their mother recommends Thermalright ultra) Get XP Pro as well. (if you get 64 bit you can support more than 3gb mem if you really want)

Should have budget room to upgrade to higher CPU and more HD space, or bump up to a 8800GTX. Your choice. Just giving suggestions.

If you want a copy of XP Pro, it'll pay to shop around. They're still plentiful online but if you want to walk into a store to buy one, you'll need to call around first. I was able to pick up an OEM copy for $129 at PC Club last week but Best Buy wanted $199 for OEM and $299 for retail although they said they would price match.
