Loss of windows aero system on my laptop Windows Vista home premium

Downloaded HP games programme and since then my desktop screen has been magnified and I cannot see the whole picture as before. Cannot get anywhere back to normal no matter what I try. Not very IT minded. Have deleted the HP games programme but this has not brought back my screen to normal - please help in simple easy to follow language!!

Right click on the desktop background and choose Properties. Click the Settings tab and increase the Screen Resolution.
