Hi

I recently bought all the things to upgrade my PC, i just need a processor now and i was thinking would it make no difference if i buy it now or wait for the price drop, if i buy one now it will be E6600, after price drop Q6600

GA-P965-DS3
2GB corsair 800 C4
450 power supply (will it be enough for both i wont OC)
7600GS xfx
3 x 250 GB sata
80 GB sata
thermal take big type VX

which processor will be better for this build, i would be multi tasking and a little bit of games?

im using a e6600 and i love it, its quite nice compared to the P4 series, itll do fine, it was hinted that a e6600 and a 88 series gpu will max out crysis on ultra wuality with 2 gigs of ram, so the cpu is quite enough for games that will come out by the end of this year, personally i wouldnt go with quad just yet, maby mid to late next year if i would need to build a pc then (or maby even later) dual core is quite enough for multitasking...atleasst gfor me...hope this helped a bit

the q6600 is like having two e6600s... for the same price of course the q6600 is better, unless of course you really care about the extra few mhz you may be able to overclock the e6600

Is this a joke post. Let's see would a dual core or a quad core be better? Hmmm, that is a hard questions to answer. Now we should work through this one together. A dual core is two cores and a quad core is four cores. Two or four, my guess is that four cores would be better because there are four of them. Yeah yeah, the software doesn't fully take advantage of them yet blah blah. Obviously waiting and getting the quad would be significantly better. The answer is really up to you. Can you wait or not?

get the e6600 now, don't play the waiting game, its a ****** pain in the ass, if you fall into that trap you'll realise your still running and xp2000 256mb ram and radeon 800 in 2015 because there was always something else just round the corner.

Get it bought, its a good chip anyway and cheap as hell
It all comes down to whether he can wait a month and a half, which is the question that I asked. It isn't that long but you do have a valid point. I'm looking at a build and I am having trouble waiting for the drop in price. I hate always buying just before the big price cut, but oh well.

Last summer I spent a month dreaming about a new computer, I was sooo close buying a e6600, but I didn't I waited almost a year and now I have bought one, what Have I gained through this? Money, and a better GPU (8800gts, instead of 1900xt!). But I really don't advice to waiting, if you truly want one now. In my case I had university studies so I really had no time to spend on it anyways, and thats what kept me waiting.

Do you have room for a computer in your life? If so buy one now, or don't buy one. I can't describe the ecstacy when the new computer arrives; picking up all the parts, putting them together, booting up for the first time - playing oblivion :D

Ahh it's beautiful man, can you live without it any longer?

Computerparts will allways improve, why w8 is a relevant question, is there such a thing as the right time to buy one? If you ask me I would say no, it all comes down to if u truly are emotionally ready for having one or not.

I advise not upgrading until your programs/games require it. I'm hoping my 939 rig will last another year, then I plan to jump straight to DDR3 and a great DirectX10 video card at good prices.

not sure about the other processors (might not be a big drop for them)

q6600 is the largest % drop

who knows what prices will be like? i advise you not to spend too much on a processor just because in a few months there will be another price drop. there will always be another price drop until the processor is no longer on the market. i suggest that you find one that has the best price:performance ratio. that way you wont end up spending too much for the amount of performance you're getting.

Intel droped the quad core price the most, this could mean that they are planing to make 4 cores + a satandard 8O
well there are many points of view but this Q6600 seems to be good enough for me

the E6750 sounds good to me after the price drop...well for now. Hopefully i wont have to upgrade to Quad till a year or more. though theres a big hype for the quad's i rather just go with the C2D. ill make the switch once theres plenty of programs and games that take advantage of the quad.

At this point is really worth to wait for the quad core to come down to $266. (But since I have a E6600 already, Im waiting for Penryn)

I know is annoying to have a system and not able to use it because you dont have the dam CPU so do this. You can go to eBay and buy a Pentium D or even a Pentium 4 for $40 shipped (dont pay more than that, if you can one cheaper, better) and use it for the month that you will be waiting for the Q6600 price reduction.

Some might say is a waste of money, but the guy just wants to use his system. That might hold him for the month.

i actualy have a P4 and i am kinda over clocking it...
i cant wait to see the diffrence in changing from a P4 to a Q6600

Intel made a huge drop on the q6600 for a good reason, so we can all buy one!

If anyone went out now and bought a e6600 id have to say they didnt do theri research, no-one in their right mind would buy one when the q6600 is just around the cornor at a REASONABLE price :D

"Intel caused a bottle neck with this when they doubled the cores and didnt bump up the bus speed. E6600 gives 533Mhz per core, the Q6600 only gives 266Mhz or 333Mhz depending on if you are runnign a 1066Mhz FSB or 1333Mhz FSB. The gain from this is definately not worth the cost even after the price drop will happen. Definately dont get this. Wait for the true quads or get the E6600."

this is a review in newegg for the Q6600
what does this guy mean? and is it true or not

he is saying that intels quad are not native-quad which is true. It is only a single package with 2 conroes on it. But is not as slow as he says since we can see in the benchies that this quad-cores perform better each day.

What he also says is the transition from 266mhz to 333mhz FSB is not worth, which is true because you are paying for an "overclocked" processor (which u can do with a 266mhz FSB cpu without paying the extra)
