Windows 7 loses Internet connection

After installing Win7 (clean install), my PC loses all internet connection after a few hours of working just fine.
I can't access any web sites, and the system becomes very sluggish, and I have to restart.
While the connection is down I can't even access my WLAN router (FritzBox) anymore via the browser interface.

I do not have this problem with XP which is still installed on the same machine so a hardware error can be ruled out.

I tried the ipconfig release/renew routine, but it didn't help.
In fact, once the connection is lost ipconfig doesn't show ANY information when invoked... just the "Windows IP Configuration" line but nothing else.
(It works just fine when the connection is up)

I am accessing the net through a Fritz box (WLAN router) but there are no other devices connected to it.
X Netstat logs also show no irregularities...

It might have something to do with Newsgroup access, since every time these crashes occurred, I had Newsbin Pro running. I tried switching to GrabIt to exclude a software error, and the same thing happened.

Also, the problems seem to occur when I am NOT working on the computer; a typical situation is when I just let Newsbin/GrabIt run and then go out for a few hours - when I come back I can see that the connection was lost around 1-2 hours after I left.

I didn't find a way yet to restart the connection without restarting the computer... I tried logging off/on, the ipconfig thing I described above, but nothing helped. A quicker way to do this would already help me save some time...

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I really don't want to go back to XP.

Make sure your NIC driver is up to date under Windows 7, since this isn't happening in XP.

Edit: If it is up to date from the motherboard manufacturer, roll back to the generic Windows 7 driver if available.

Yaphetkotto7789,

Have you installed the latest updated drivers for your wireless card? Also, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

Thanks for your input...
I tried updating the driver for my onboard network adapter (VIA 6502), but it's pretty old (well... about 3 years) and I couldn't find a newer one. Also, Win7 tells me that the one i have is already the newest driver there is.

So, in essence, my problem remains unsolved.
I checked the Newsbin forum and found that many people have a similar problem while running Win7-64 with NVIDIA networking adapters. But I have Win7-32 + VIA, so their solutions don't work for me.

The only improvement I have found is to reduce the amount of active connections to the news server from 10 to 3. this way, the transfer still runs at full speed, but it takes much longer until the problems arise (10+ hours instead of 2-3 hours).
