I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are buying the ever-so-popular XP-M 2500+ to OC to 3200+? Yes, it will be a great improvement to the 1900+ in general, however I don't know exactly what kind of increase you are looking for. It's not going to "bring you up to date" so to speak. Will it help with games? Sure. Like a new computer? No. Will it help with video encoding? Sure. A lot? No. You will still be moving pretty slow compared to present computers, but it will be noticeably faster than what you have!

Incidentally, if you are trying to reach the Barton's speed of 400MHz FSB, you might need new RAM. I'm not sure that the RAM and FSB can run unlinked on your motherboard. What's your MB and RAM?

New motherboard + Dual Core CPU + 2GB DDR2 ram for ~ $200 = the way to go.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADO3600DDBOX - Retail = $67

ASUS M2N-X Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 520 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail = $65

pqi 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model MAC42GUOE-X2 - Retail = $63

Total = $195

You might be able to find a cheaper motherboard. For Intel add about $30 for the E2160 CPU.

Plus a new graphics card. It's PCIe only. I would get one with both PCIe and AGP if you want to go that route. Or, get one with integrated graphics, like a 6100.
