Northgate Athlon 64 1GB RAM expansion to 2GB,s

Northgate Athlon 64 had only 1GB of RAM but it was installed with two 512MB RAM\'s. Bought a 1 GB RAM and put it in 3rd slot but it did not work. Took out the two 512GB RAM\'s and put in the 1GB in slot 1 and it works fine. So it looks like I can not mix the 1GB together with the two 512MB RAM\'s. The info on the PC says it is expandable to 2GB but I do not want to invest in another 1GB RAM if that would not work. Help out an old man >71 who needs to understand what I can do to bring in another 1GB to up it to 2GB. Thanks,

Get a second 1GB stick. Mixing and matching RAM doesn't always work well. With 2 x 1GB of the same RAM, you should be just fine.
