Do you still have the hard drive with Windows? You can use Keyfinder from Magic Jelly Bean.

try searching the cd it sometimes works
show all hidden files
go to i386 folder
go to unattended.txt file

sometimes the key is there

If Windows XP was installed on the system (old or new) there should be a label on the cabinet (or underneath, if a laptop) where they product key is written. This is, if the CD came with the software bundle when the computer was purchased.
