Ipaq 3970 upgrade to PPC 2003

The Problem...#1

My ipaq 3970 with PPC 2003 (I upgraded it a few month ago without any
problems) couldnt connect to my home pc via vpn. I tried everything I
could think of; reloaded wireless card drivers on the Ipaq, recreated
the vpn on the Ipaq and on my home XP machine, nothing. I tried
connecting to my home machine with a laptop and it work fine so I
know the problem isnt the home pc.

The Solution.....I thought

I decided it had to be a problem with PPC 2003 so since I had the
upgrade cd and had backed up all my data...I proceeded to reload PPC
2003 into ROM.

My Problem....#2.

While upgrading the ROM on the IPaq, I recieved a communciations error
telling me to soft reset the Ipaq and try the upgrade again...which I
did. Now my Ipaq doesnt have a valid ROM immage and the upgrade will
not complete.

My Question....

Is there any way I can get a valid ROM image on the IPaq or something
else that will allow the PPC 2003 upgrade to complete? I have
contacted HP and they are sending a box so I can send the device back
to them for repair (out of warranty, of course) and then give me an
estimated cost but this device is critical to my business (I use it
for wireless security audits) and would be intrested if anyone knows a
quicker way to get it up and running.
