Copy SIM?

Is there any way to copy a SIM, so you could have 2 phones on the same
acct. rather than paying extra to have a "family" plan?
Or, in my case, I can't add another to my plan even if I pay because it's
an old # from MO I want to keep, but I live in CA now. They say I'd have
to get another MO # if I wanted to do it, and I don't want to do that.
It'd be better to just have them both ring to the same MO #.

Those devices copy phone book and messages ... not account information.
The OP is looking to clone his account into another SIM card. Those backup
devices don't do it (although they're very convenient for the task they are
desined to do).

In this case, why not simply transfer the SIM card back and forth?

It's a little trickier than that in the sense that whenever a new phone is
connected to the network, the entire network has to be queried to make sure
any other one with the same phone is presently connected and, if so, disable
it... unless it's in the middle of, say, a 911 call... or something

I mean, it's certainly a solvable technical problem, but pretty much any
scheme you come up with is guaranteed to increase the number of support
calls Cingular has to handle, and it doesn't take many support calls before
an otherwise profitable customer becomes unprofitable.

By putting the onous on the consumer to change the SIM card, these issues
are avoided.

Yeah, I figured that.
Would take a few microseconds and alot more net traffic, but I'd be
willing to pay for it in an increased fee.
Plus, it might even cut down on stolen phone codes - if that's still a
problem for them.

It costs em next to nothing if their using one of those damn India call
centers, which so far I haven't caught them doing - thank God.

Yeah, but they stick you big on charges for that don't they?
Dunno for sure, didn't think of that, but good idea.
Anybody know the exact specs on that?
