Starting a few weeks ago on my Phillips 32PT740H37A only on the
componet input purple splotches started to appear on the screen after
being on for a few minutes. The purple spots however do not appear
on any other inputs or any other channels when in use. Does anyone
have any idea what could be causing this? If so is there any way I could
fix it, or what an estimated cost of repair could be?
If its going to cost too much, I might as well junk this TV out and buy
a new one. The only good news is that I got it as a used display model
at Wal-Mart for under $400 but yeah... that's a lot of lost money.
Especially since I could of saved that towards a better TV obviously,
but lesson learned indeed....

If this is a direct-view CRT, the problem may be that the levels are
too high coming in on the component input, or that the input is set wrong
in sensitivity. The result would be that bright areas of the image are
heating the shadow mask, which is warping slightly, causing color purity
problems.

I actually figured out the problem. Strangely a metal clothes hanger
got behind my TV and somehow was causing an interferance because
it was touching my component cable for my DVD player. Very
strange, I can't figure out how it all connected together like that but
it fixed the problem.
