1 gb of ram shows 896 mb in dxdiag?

I bought my new system with 1gb of ram, 64 bit cpu and os(vista). When I run dxdiag, it shows only 896 mb. My brother's system also has 1gb ram and has 32 bit os with 32 bit xp and shows 1022mb in dxdiag. I want to know why 896mb in my system? Your answers will be very much appreciated.

If you have 1GB RAM and onboard video that shares 256MB, then dxdiag will show only 896mb RAM.
