I have been looking at the
Samsung TX-P3271H at best buys website
and I have some questions about the set.
1:
This set doesnt appear to have analog audio out
jacks just a digital optical jack. I have a
Dolby Digital receiver and need to know if I connect
the TX-P3271H to it with the optical cable will
the Dolby receiver get sound from analog sources
(analog cable for example) or just from digital
sources (the digital ota channels and my dvd player).
I am trying to avoid the tv's built in speakers.
2:
Does this unit support 720p ?
3:
Can I plug my ota antenna into one rf jack and my cable tv coax
cable into the other for easy switching between ota digital and
analog cable ?

The 2001 model year Panasonic 4:3 HDTV-ready set I used to have
supported 1080i, 480p, and 480i; it choked on a 720p signal. (I'm
talking about component inputs here.)

That is correct. The scaling requirement is for ATSC receivers. HD ready
displays can do, or not do, as the manufacturer decides.

I'm a contractor. If you want an opinion, I'll sell you one.
Which one do you want?

Somebody at AVS Forum was watching the Super Bowl on Fox HD and complaining
about how bad it looked. It turns out his STB was in "native mode" and
was outputting 720p, which his set handled just fine on the component
inputs. Unfortunately, it "handled" it by down-converting to 480p.

Yes.

I just meant that the setup menu has no option for two antennas, but it
can do antenna in one plus cable in the other just fine. Doesn't
matter which one you use for each. Of course it's only a passive
tuner, no interactive features without the cable company's box.
Depending on your cable company, you may find you don't need the OTA
antenna; some include the local digital stations in HD with basic
cable, even if you haven't paid for "digital cable".
My number one complaint about this Samsung TV, by the way, is coarse
dot pitch. If I sit any closer than seven feet I can see the grid. It
loses some horizontal resolution because of that too. I considered
that an acceptable tradeoff for the low price.
