I happen to have a Belkin F5D7050, (or I think that's the model number) a cheap, USB 2.0 wireless adapter supposedly spec'd for up to 802.11g.
However, it's been close to nothing but pain for me to use; when accessing any 802.11g network, at first it appeared to do random disconnects, starting mild and then getting more frequent and severe... Eventually, I figured out that apparently, the thing is overheating; disconnecting the adapter and giving it a chance to cool (often subjecting it to a stream of cold air from my freezer's circulation system) would solve the problem, while simply disconnecting and reconnecting it would not.
However, as time has gone on, it SEEMS almost like it's happening more and more. It's to the point where I get too frustrated, and leave it unused. I'd also taken to stripping the casing from it, and using the antenna without its heavy plastic casing that, as far as I can see, is just holding in heat better so it overheats quicker.
Is there perhaps anything POSITIVE that can be done about this? I've wanted to subject this thing to a hammer since almost the time I got it. But I'd prefer to actually not have to shell out a chunk more money to get another adapter if at all possible; they're too bloody expensive, even after they've been around for years...
