hi i just built new pc e6600,p35mobo,2gigs ddr2ram,8800gts 640,150raptor and vista.now when i pop in fear and run the in-game performance test i score real good at 57 low,115 mid and 330 high@1680x1050 max/sshadows off with vsync off.now if i re-run the test my scores drop big time 26 low,36 mid and high 37.i re-did the test again at different resolutions and settings and after the first test the scores are always lower.anyone else get this or have any clue to whats going on.im pretty sure all my drivers are up to date.thx

I am having the EXACT same problem. This has been driving me crazy as it seems that no one is either A)experiencing the same issue, or B) just haven't noticed. I have noticed this happening on the last 2 systems I have built. FEAR is updated to the latest 1.08 patch. I have tried every video driver under the sun and it makes no difference. I noticed this happening on both my 4800+ X2 system in vista and my E6420 in vista.

Specs:
E6420 @ 3.4Ghz
8800GTX
Vista Ultimate x86 (32 bit)
2 GB DDR2-800
UAC is disabled (although I have tried with it enabled and set "run as administrator" and get the same results)

In XP i can average around 140FPS in FEAR. In Vista, I sometimes get a similar score, but if I re-run the test, it goes to about 30-40FPS average. I lose over 100 FPS! I have tried disabling shadows, setting it to restart the video config between levels, and nothing helps.

Every article on Vista gaming has FEAR running great, but I have not seen this work at all.

Does this only happen when running the performance check? If your in-game performance is good, then why worry?

It sounds like a bug in this particular test, unless in-game performance is also affected.

I'll give the game a run with FRAPS and check, but I think it does affect in-game performance.

I will test and confirm.

hmm, i ran the test 5 times now and i get pretty much the same results +- 1 or 2 fps in the min, max and average.

ok.yes it does affect in-game performance and two.i checked on my brothers pc that has xp sp2 on it and it does not happen at all.so i reinstalled xp and now it works perfect.1680x1050 all ingame settings maxed.with aax2 and afx4 i get average fps of 80.not bad hey!but yep vista is a little immature i guess.but yes its vista!

Maybe it has something to do with vista's memory management. I believe there's an option for purging memory between reloads in F.E.A.R. Have you tried enabling that? Just a guess though but it did seem to help performance on my old pc.

I my experience, v-sync made the biggest difference.

It seems to be a Vista+8800 series issue. This really bugs me but I guess I will abandon F.E.A.R. for now. I don't want to reload XP for one game.

Eloquently said. You should look into creative writing.
