Thermal paste on the entire surface of the heatspreader or?

Thermal paste on the entire surface of the heatspreader or just in a straight line in the middle?

I baught a Scythe Infinity and in the instructions it says to aply thermal paste on the entire surface but on the instructions for Arctic silver 5 it says just to apply in a straight line in the middle.

I guess both are very good but maybe some of you have bad experiences with one of the methods.
