I own an older Pentium 4 system with an onboard Intel 82845G graphics chip set. I recently purchased a ViewSonic 20" monitor that supports 1680x1050, but unfortunately, the 82845G chip does not.

I googled for a possible solution and found a way to coax another similar chip set to display 1680x1050. Is there any way to do the same with my current system?

My motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot, so buying a new graphics card is not an option. I plan to buy a new computer in the next few months, but until then, do I have any other options?

Can't you just run it at a lower res? I assume you don't game much with integrated graphics and movies don't look to horrible stretched. If it's just for a few months why bother. Or try the same trick (if you didn't allready) they used on the other chip.

Have you tried different drivers ? Monitor drivers may help as well , since the graphics adapter may not see this resolution as supported...
Another thing you may try is the following :

1)Run Regedit.exe
2)Go to HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VIDEO

There you will find a list of keys with display settings. One of them contains your current configuration.
Good luck !

Why is a graphics card not an option? There are many PCI video cards out there around $50 that will take care of your problem until you are able to get your new system.
