I think I am down to a toshiba 52hmx84 or panasonic pt50dl54 dlp rear
projection unit, toshiba comes with a free stand, but I think the panasonic
screen is a little clearer
Question, how many people notice the rainbow effect from dlp, and I was told
dlp handles sports better than lcd tv, if any of you have either can you
tell me if you see a freezing/lagging effect when fast sports are on,

I have only been on the site a few weeks and know enough to cover my ears,
close my eyes and stomp up and down awaiting the type of responses you have
just fallen into with regards to RAINBOWS.
Good Luck my son,

BTW,
I was watching an action movie in the local store on the Sony 50" LCD and I
felt strangely nautious or agitated.
Honestly.
Not a joke or a put-down of Sony!
Has this ever happened to you?
The seating was roughly 8 feet away and maybe that was just too close for
that type of flick!

Not sure that I understand your comment: how can either seeing rainbows or
hearing noise be "debatable"? Some people do, others don't - no debate.
The real question is whether or not the rainbows or noise bothers *you*; in
my case, I ruled out DLPs first thing, since I can't walk through a TV
department without seeing rainbows on every side!

I have not seen them yet, but have only spent about 2-3 hours in stores

Rainbows are an individual phenomena....not to the set, but to the viewer.
Some people are just more sensitive to the strobing or rainbow effect...most
never see it. Get 100 people watching the same tv and maybe one will be
affected.
And yes, DLP is not nearly as prone to "smear" or blur on high speed action.

That's probably the easisest way to see rainbows.
You're seeing the images to the side, where your peripheral
temporal accuity is greater, and the motion might tend to
strobe rainbows out also.
That's probably a good test for rainbow tolerance.
Also, viewing the screen at a 45 degree angle while crunching
hard candy works.

I don't use the integrated tuner or the cable card for my set yet. My
cable card company doesn't have cable cards available yet. I don't use
the integrated tuner right now either because I live in a mountainous
area where it is hard to pull in a signal. People in other areas that I
have talked to though say they are good luck with clear OTA signals.

No, my TV Guide isn't working. From listening in on the AVS forums I've
discovered that there is a know bug with the TV Guide and that Toshiba
is working on a fix.

I have two samsung dlp's - an hln 43" and a hlp 50". No one who's watched
tv at my house has seen these. I've asked people to look for them and no
one knows what I'm talking about. I don't doubt some people see them, but
think it's rarely a big problem. Go to a big box store and stare at a few
dlp sets. Doubt you'll see them.
