well i just did some research (a little), and according to tomshardwares cpu charts the difference between the two is very little. in my opinion its not worth the extra 100$, at least not from what i've seen in the chart comparison.

If you have the money, the E6700. If not, the 6000+.

But I would get the E6600, since it's about a buck something more than the 6000+, and is pretty close in performance to it, as well.

It all depends on what you're planning to do mostly with your system. Both CPUs will be fine.

Compare, which should I get

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 for $316.00
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ for $220.00
Depends on what you're going to use your computer for.

If its media related (encoding), or game related, C2D will be more suitable. If this is the case, get an E6600 will be better off for you, as X2 6000+ main competition is E6600.

If you're going for more FP related software (CAD), then 6000+ should be better.

I will get C2D over X2 any day. They're simply just superior.

I'm looking for a gaming pc. I'm just wondering if the 2MB cache is worth $100 dollars? I can afford it, it is just that is it really worth that? I am going to be using it with a ASUS Striker Extreme mother board in case this helps anything. I was going to go with the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 but there really is no reason to get a quad-core processor at this point. There is only two games total (I believe) that multithread all four proccesors. So any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Then I would suggest E6600. Typically you won't need anything above E6600 if you're just going to use your rig for gaming. But nonetheless, C2D is definitely your best bet, as X2 6000+ is inferior in gaming.

I wouldn't say it was inferior in gaming, but compared to the E6600 it's just not up to par. The 6000+ can hold it's own, just not when against an E6600.

Also, stating the X2 6000+ as inferior will simply start a flame war, and those get boring, real fast.

A few frames per second difference does not equal inferior. If the OP was comparing a C2D CPU to let's say, an A64 3200+, then I would use inferior, but not to an X2 6000+.

If u must know between the two then I would go with the E6700, no contest unless you are wanting to save the cash, but I agree with people above and say to go with the E6600 especially if you wish to OC even alittle bit! Just wait till July 22nd if you can for the price drops and you will be able to get the Q6600 for $266. Hope this helps!

Best,
