How to fix windows XP 1402 error

When I try to remove program by add and remove,adobe reader 8.1 I receive the error message 1402. Cant open HKEY,You don't have sufficient ecces to PC.
And is a same Error 1402 shows when I want to install the new version of Adobe reader 9.1.

I came to this site looking for solutions to the same problem. I cannot open my 9.2 Adobe Reader, I cannot uninstall, repair either due to this erro 1402 that says:
" HKEY_LOCAL_\Machine\Software\Microsoft|Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalCompoents\MSFS
Verify that you have sufficent access to that key or contact your support person."

Thanks very much for putting me on these buddies trail!
I have made some progress with the direction I've found so far, though when changing MAPI administrator as per instructions my access is denied.
