In the past couple of months I get the following error message when trying to view .wmv files from emails. "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the files". No changes were made, is there a fix to view these files without downloading them?

Hmm, WMP should understand these anyway, being it's "own" file type, but anyway. Try downloading one of these packs, I recommend the Full one:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Install that, with the player too, and see if Windows Media Player will play them then. If not try opening them in the Media Player Classic that will be installed with this Codec Pack.
