Unable to view advertisements in any browser

I changed some settings in XP, and I don't know what I did wrong. I'm
unable to view advertisements on any website on my home PC. It doesn't
matter which browser I use: IE or Firefox. While some may not want to
view advertisements, I'm tired of the empty windows.

Anyone have any idea what I might have changed?

Did you immunize your system against spyware using IESpyAd, Spybot Search
and Destroy, SpywareBlaster or some hosts file?

if you use Norton Internet Security, That will also block banners and other
ads from appearing.

I have Spybot Search and Destroy and SpywareBlaster. I'll see if they
are the problem. It may be Spy Sweeper.

It was Spy Sweeper. I must have set that some time ago without
realizing what it did.

Under Shields > Common Ad Sites Shield was enabled.

If I were you I would use a popup blocker and make sure my settings in my
browser would eliminate the advertising.. then if you want the ads.. simply
put your email address on the net in various places.. and you will have
plenty of spam in your inbox. Most people hate this.. but to each his

Is your firewall blocking adverts?
Are the various browsers you tried blocking adverts?
if they are pop up windows that would normally have an advert, then I say
turn on the pop-up blocker and get rid of them altogether.
