I got this loading XP for the first time on a fresh formatted drive. I I tried the disk on several new drives and got the same error. I tried another disk and got the install to start again. I believe this to be a cd or bad XP install disk. What do you think? Bruce

That's a read error. You could try to clean your CD with a little soap and water. Gently.

I did just that with a soft rag and alcohol , which has helped with dirty cd's in the past. This came rigth out of the oem pack and into the drive with no prints and got that error.

try cleaning the cd drivbe lens or upgrading the firmware or recheck chipset drivers

I don't think I have to go that far, I put another oem cd in and it took off and finished the install. Bruce
