This may have been asked and if so I apologize for the duplication. I'm
considering buying an HDTV (probably monitor only) now that I have my tax
refund. I've been looking around at various models and have noticed that
some have multiple sets of component connectors (usually one 1080i and one
or more 480p/720p, as I recall) while others have one set that will allow
input from 480p/720p/1080i all on that same set of connectors.

My question actually goest to the htr-5490 receiver. If I buy a monitor
with one set of compoenent connectors that cover all three of the above
digital formats, can I use the 5490 to switch say a 480p device (DVD player)
and a 1080i source (HD stb)? Or is there something about the receiver that
requires them to all be the same format?

I also think I read somewhere that the 5490 does not have the capability to
change an s-video input to a component video output. Is that correct?

Thanks for the info.

Robert

I'm pretty sure it will pass thru what ever resolution mode that you
input thru from either of the 2 inputs. Hook it up to see what it
does. I don't pass my video thru the 5490 so don't really know for
sure if it does a good job with this.

I just read in my manual that the 5490 will only output the same as
you input, composite to composite, S video to S video, component to
component.

If you have not heard Dolby 5.1 audio on HD channels thru the 5490 yet
you are gonna love it. Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS HD channel back in
December was the first thing I heard and recorded to my Dish 921 and
I'm still in awe of how good it sounds. Wow!
