alright just wondering if someone here would be able to give me some ideas on how to fix my beast. i'll just give the history of what i have done and the current dilemma and maybe someone here can help.
got an hp comp which is about 4 years old, the video card crashed a couple months ago and since i had to leave for duty i figured i'd fix it up when i got back home. so i picked up a new vid card. after i plugged it in the comp would come on with and would start to load but then no usb ports would work. went out and picked up a new motherboard and cpu and hooked it up but, it turns out my tower on switch was not made for the motherboard. seen a scrap computer across the road and took the power switch out of it which works great besides looking like crap now. so got this going but now windows will no start to load at all. the computer just shuts down after the bios stuff and when it asks me how to start windows it shuts down or in safemode it will freeze on something called gagp30?? so at this point i figured i would just reinstalled my copy of xp. ok got that done and after it starts to do the settings adjustment and warns that the computer will restard as it sets up it just shuts off. I have no idea what to do with this thing now. so if anyone can lighten my situation it will be greatly appreciated.

You said you have a new motherboard in? Chances are this is causing problems when XP is trying to load at present, because the system has changed so much since it was last used. Not the most technical explanation I know, but my XP wouldn't boot at all when I transferred one of my hard drives from an AMD system to a newer Intel one. A format and reinstall would be the most effective way to fix this, unless anyone else here has any ideas?
yeah i had that problem and had to go through microsoft support for that issue. i was able to register xp so it would then continue its setup but then when it would start changing its settings or whatever it does after formatting it will then shut off.
should i just format and start from scratch again after just formatting or is there something on here for if a person were to build a new comp and what steps they have to go through installing everything?

I would try formatting again, and seeing if it makes it all the way through installation successfully. If it does this, that's better than nothing because you have something you can then boot into to run diagnostic tests.
I remember also having a computer that when I tried to install to it, it would crash, but at differing times during installation. If I remember correctly, it turns out the CPU Cooler on that PC was not operating, so it would get too hot and then shut down. Check all the connections on the motherboard and also check that all fans are operating. I would also recommend you remove anything unnecessary such as floppy drives or sound cards, to help avoid confusion; these can always be easily added later if/when required.
ok so i was around the shop where i picked up most of my parts and they gave me a program to run and check for some problems. when i got home and turned on the comp, the screen was flickering. the last time this happened i ended up in this mess with a new vid card, mobo, and cpu. so right now my plan is to just drop the whole thing off at the shop tomorrow and hopefully they can manage something with it thats not going to break the pocket. if they find anything out i'll mention it on this for a heads up to anyone else that may go through something similar
