x1950pro - which resolution?

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards x1950pro - which resolution?

Word :    Username :

Hi, I read on the web that the x1950 pro is a 'midrange' card. Does this mean that my gaming resolution - with all parameters set on 'high', is limited only up to 1024x768? Thanks

Depends on the game. Run the highest resolution possible with smooth frame rates.

I have a x1950PRO and play most of my games @ 1680x1050. Older games get the 6xAA 16xAF treatment, while the more demanding games such as Oblivion gets no AA and no AF with ingame settings at around 80%. Grass around 50%

what res do you play at???

I can play HL2 E1 with full detail at 1920x1200 on an E6600/X1950PRO system but then that's an older engine. Oblivion fares not so well.

does anyone know what res/settings you could run on UT2004 with this card?

Thanks, earlier I thought I am limited only to 1024x768, I'll move it up to 1280x1024

At the moment I use only 1024x768 because I am afraid that I might fry my card if I play at higher resolutions for extended period of time.

lol no, it wont fry, you'll just loose fps and run things slower :P

i normally play that game at 1280x1024 with all in game settings on max + 6xAA and 16xAF without a hitch. Multiplayer game runs at 85fps non stop as that is the normal cap on the multiplayer.

You won't fry your card by playing games.

The max resolution of the card is 2560x1600. Not many games would run smoothly at that res on this card.

I have got to start saving my money up and get me one. My GF4 ti 4200 gives me about 30fps on avg at 1024*768 with no AA no AF and the settings all turned to about middle range as well as the slider setting in nvidia control panel set to performance. It's sad, but I have never had better, so i can happily (to a point) say I don't know what i've been missing.

A bit of random info:

I have a X1950pro, slightly OC'ed to 600/700, (GPU/RAM) and I get and average of ~40-50 FPS in Battlefield 2, all settings maxed out. There are times when the FPS dip really low, but normally this is only around 30FPS. Luckiliy this happens rarely, and is not distracting at all.

I think the X1950PRO is the king for 1280x1024 gaming.

for its price range i think its worth it.

i play bf2142 with med/high settings in game and 4XAA and 8XAF without a problem (going from 40-100 fps). ( i dont pick high on everything, cause i barely notice any difference in game...so there is no point loosing more fps for minimal gain in image)

@liquidX: well medium settings is pretty good looking as it is. setting everything on high till the guy says "holy sh*t" is kinda funny, and the in game quality is a fairly good increase. You can just test it out with your geforce, you may get low fps but atleast u can see what it would be like to play like that at over 60 fps :P .

if your gonna save money you may aswell keep saving till UT3 and get a better card than the x1950 pro, cause i got a feeling with pixel shader 3 im gonna need a better card  . If i plan on playing that in dx10, then i definitely need another card...and another operating system :(

I have a GF4 before.
After using the x1950pro, with all quality setting set on 'high', I wouldn't want to go back to the GF4.
