ON MY HOME COMPUTER, When I click "connect" within Remote Desktop, RD crashes saying it encountered an error and referencing a appcompat.txt filename that does not show up in my machine. So, I cannot hope to know what it says. On top of that, I am not sure i would know how to proceed even if I could find that file. ON MY OFFICE LAPTOP, the VPN and Remote desktop works fine.

Where do I look for differences ?

The error should give you the path for the file. Go to start, click run, copy and paste the path into the run command line, and hit enter. It should find the file. The file isn't the problem, but it'll give some information on the error.
