Video card installation problems

Hey all. Just built a new PC and installed vista ome premium 64bit on it. However, my 8800GTX doesn't seem to be recognised. All programmes just list a 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', and when I try to play Solitare I get major slowdown! I say recognised and not connected, since my monitor is plugged into a HDMI port at the back, and I can see the fan spinning on the card itself. When I try to install drivers, the screen just says that no hardware could be found to support the software.
So, is my GPU badly installed or broken, and how can I fix it? Thanks for your time!

  1. Is the driver that you want to install the correct one?

I mean, the Vista 64bit version for the 8 series.
