Gateway OS Disc Jumping To System Recovery?

Ok I don't really know if this is where this post belongs or not. Anyway...

So Im fixing a gateway desktop. The last hard drive fried so I put in a fresh one while i try to recover the data from the other. I put the Windows XP Media Center disc into the drive and boot up the comp. But when it boots to the disc the Gateway System Recovery thing pops up and complains about the lack of an OS. If I do what it tells me it just goes throuugh some loading screens then restarts. I've used this Gateway OS disc before so I know it works. and the BIOS recognizes the HDD fine. THanks
