So when do you think the 8800 gtx will drop in price? I know it'll be when AMD/ATI has a card that rivals it. But when do you think would be a realistic time for that to happen?

I'm going to upgrade my video card at the end of the summer. And I'd just feel kind of stupid if I bought it after it's been out for so long. I didn't have the money for it before. But it would just almost seem like a waste if I bought it without there being a price drop.

That card will perform no better than the 512mb version unless the core and memory are clocked higher. Plus it will come in at a price much higher than the attractive price of $400 that the HD 2900XT is at right now. And all on top of that the 8800GTX out performs it by a large margin.

Are you sure? How is it different from the HD2900XT other than the added memory?

And I'm not sure if I really need 1 gig of Vram right now... I don't even need the 768 on the 8800gtx. I only game at 1680x1050. I just want the 8800gtx for it's power.

But I'm sure DX10 is going to change the memory requirements....

Edit: Oh. IcY18 beat me. ish. well he answered some questions.

Seeing as it is almost upon us (2900 1Gb) there are bound to be some reliable benchies coming out. If it indeed is the better card at a comparable price, that would be the only time the GTX will go down in price other then nvidia releasing a new card in the top segment. So with a little patience you might get a better deal or a better card. Win win situation.
