Other devices error

Hello,
Saturday morning I awoke to my computer in the BSOD . Rebooted and most everything was fine except for one little problem. In the device manager under Other Devices was a device called "Scan", no matter what i tried i could not find any drivers for this piece of hardware (nothing was changed on my computer). If i uninstalled it and rebooted the hardware wizard wanted to find a driver for it and my win xp disk nor my motherboard disk contained the driver for it. I eventually tried a restore which locked up my machine and would not reboot at all after that.

I had recently purchased a HD from newegg so i pulled my old HD and installed the new one, Win XP installed just fine.....so i thought haha. The "Scan" device was still in the device manager area but what really blew my mind was what happened with the win xp install...my CD/DVD drice was now my C:\ and the my new HD was designated as E:\

Has anyone ever experienced either of these problems and any advice for a fix would be great. This computer is the 4th one i've built on my own and I've never had anything remotely close to this happening.

Teh only thing thats different is an extra 2gigs of RAM thats been in for over a year. Any help is greatly
appreciated!
