Hell of time with Active Sync

I have an IPAQ 3650 runnning PPC2002 and Activesync latest version.
When I try to get my computer and IPAQ to talk to each other they
recognize each other for about 2 seconds and then disconnect. I hear
the beeps and the status box comes up for about a second and then
nothing. In my Connections tab under settings what should I see?? I
have AvantGo Connect, Beam, Network adapters and Connections (this one
has Internet settings, Work Settings and My network card connects to:
) Am I missing a connection???? I was able to sync b4. I did get a
message: Can not start communication with desktop computer. Remoter
networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 1). Help me
please
