I am planning on getting a new Linksys Wireless-N Router, and i was wondering whether my Wireless-G network adapter for my desktop downstairs will still work with it

You may have to set the N Router to B&G in its wireless mode settings.

This may defeat the point in getting an N.

Given the low cost of wireless adapters might be better to upgrade both at once and guarantee compatibility and (maybe) performance.

I suspect that an upgrade to N wouldn't actually yield any great speed improvement over G. Most speed claims for wireless networking come from manufacturers' marketing departments !
