Will this psu run a 8800 gts 640 with an c2 6600 and the standard complement on a p35 board? I thought I needed at least 28 amps but this psu has four rails. Does that change the math? Here it is and it's on the us psu good list.

mushkin psu

Any help will be appreciated. I'm going to order it tomorrow if I can get some confirmation that it will fit the bill.

I believe that the math is - 580W / 12V = 48.3A - As the total amperage is NOT the sum of all the 4 rails.

So in theory - it should be fine....HOWEVER....As PSU rankings go, I think this is in Tier 4 as referenced by:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088

You may want to consider a better tiered PSU - as they are of higher quality components and will provide more reliable and consistent power.

Also - do not forget to reference the PSU 101 Guide:

One suggestion would be:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104022

Although the amps on each rail is 15A instead of 20A (on the Mushkin), the total amps is actually higher - 50Amps instead of 48.3 due to the slightly higher wattage. Ok, not much of an improvement, but the quality of Fortron amps are very good, and this is the same cost as what you were looking at. For a bit more, you can get more quality - but that will be your call.

Best of luck.

Ummm, there's a guy who has about the same config as you and he posted a review saying he's fine. I won't provide a link because you just did  :p :p

Here's what he says:
Pros: This is an excellent power supply. It works wonders. I stuck it in my first build and presto the E6600 and 8800 gts are working their magic. I really like the little velcro straps that come with it. They can help a lot with keeping your computer clear.

Thanks all for your insights. I saw that review on my provided link but I wanted some verified confirmation. You never know who is writing those reviews. Also, I read the sticky and thought this might be enough but I was getting pre-order jitters.

This is a Muskin Enhanced, Tier T which is fine.

Oh good then - it wasn't quite obvious initially if it was tier 3 or T. So it should be just fine for your needs.

My recommendation still stands - the Fortron unit I listed is slightly better and at the same cost. Regardless, the Mushkin should do nicely for the amperage requirements.

Cheers.
